The Mexican Bar Association (La Barra Mexicana, Colegio de Abogados) was founded in 1922 under the name of “La Barra Mexicana de Abogados”. The bases that should govern them were celebrated on October 12th of the same year, within the framework of the closing of the Second National Legal Congress. Days later, on December 29th, the Association was formally constituted in the writing by notable lawyers of the time.

In 1917, the Order of Mexicans of Lawyers was created, which ten years later merged with the Mexican Bar, through an agreement between the presidents of both groups, Alejandro Quijano and Ramón Prida, respectively. The objectives to be met by the Mexican Bar Association were published in the newspaper “Excelsior” the day after the foundation. As you can read in the quote that is transcribed below. The organization should observe the following purposes:

... ensure the good name of the profession, defend the collective interests of the group, provide the associates with the moral support they would need in the cases established by the regulations or agreed by the General Assembly or the Board; To promote the spirit of justice among individuals among themselves and in the officials in charge of the administration and to ensure that the practice of the legal profession never departs from the strict precepts of morality and conforms to the doctrine of legal science.
